New Membership Outline

PROBUS is a social club for retired persons and others of like backgrounds.  Members are not permitted to solicit business from other members, nor are guest speakers to promote their products without the permission of the management group.  There are no fund raising events.  This Club was formed in 2000 as a mixed club of men and women (thus the “Combined” designation).  As of August 2020 the club is limited to 300 members. We are accepting applications for new members up until that limit is reached. The Club meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday at 9:45am at Queen Elizabeth Park Community & Cultural Centre, for address & directions click:
During the first segment of the meeting we have an update on club activities, a brief Member's Moment by one of our members, followed by a coffee/tea break for socializing.  During the second half a guest speaker will entertain us on a variety of subjects.  Adjournment is at approximately noon.  After each monthly meeting, members who are interested meet for lunch at a local restaurant.  A member arranges a different restaurant each time.
The activities of the Club are directed toward promoting acquaintances, friendship, social activities and outings to places of interest and are all organized by members who have agreed to volunteer.  Activities within the Club include bridge clubs, book clubs, garden clubs and a dinner club. There is always an opportunity to start up a new interest group.  A popular event is the monthly breakfast at a different restaurant each time.  There are a variety of outings planned each month and they vary from the theatre, plant tours, concerts, harbour tours and seasonal bus trips.
A monthly newsletter is prepared by a member and sent out via email.  This contains some historic notes of activities including outings, club information, announcements and the recap of the last guest speakers subject and Member's Moment.
While regular attendance at monthly meetings is not mandatory, it is expected you would attend most meetings, become involved in the various activities and groups, volunteer to help with the organization of functions and/or serve on the management committee. Annual dues which are payable August 1st are $45.00 per person plus a one time initiation fee of $30.00 per person.  A pro-rated fee is applied if joining after the Club’s fiscal year.
